  • On Saturday, over 25 Cub Scouts and their families placed flags at nearly 2,700 graves at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, honoring local veterans. Col. Patrick Downing (a retired Green Beret) said the event taught the scouts about the sacrifices made for freedom.  NBC 15
  • The Alabama Poppy Project is honoring fallen service members by displaying 2,026 handmade red stoneware poppies at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park from May 22 through May 26 to help visitors remember loved ones. Volunteers offer sponsors commemorative poppy (a lasting tribute) with proceeds for veteran support groups (local nonprofits).  Gulf Coast Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Foley City Council has voted to seek bids for a new sidewalk project in the Mills community to connect a developing park with city walkways, with work expected to begin soon. The route runs along Little Rock Road, Dailey Lane, part of Baldwin County 65 and Mills Road (designed to improve pedestrian access).  Gulf Coast Media
