ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man was critically injured Thursday morning when his truck crashed head-on with a dump truck at the intersection of Three Notch Road and Emerald Drive—cleanup crews began removing spilled diesel and engine oil while TDFR assisted the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the dump truck driver remained uninjured.  WKRG News 5

  • Shrimp Basket launched its Gulf to Guest menu on May 19 using wild-caught Gulf shrimp and sustainable U.S. seafood including premium wild-caught flounder. CRIME NEWS

  • Officers responded Tuesday at 7:51 p.m. on the 1200 block of Woodland Avenue when a vehicle flipped near Metals USA and a man was found dead with a gunshot wound, and the Homicide Unit is investigating the case while waiting to contact the next of kin.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With Lt. Gov Will Ainsworth not running for governor, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville is in focus as he weighs a run for governor in 2026—he has not yet made a decision and will announce his plans during the Senate recess from Memorial Day on May 24 to June 1. The senator said he and his wife, Suzanne, have been praying about the matter.  AL.com
  • Mobile leaders broke ground on a new $300 million arena project Wednesday morning that aims to revitalize downtown and spur future investments — including a first-class hotel, theater, and retail space. Mayor Sandy Stimpson said construction will start vertical work by August as the arena is set to open in early 2027.  AL.com
  • Governor Kay Ivey announced on Wednesday that Judge Benjamin Bowden was appointed to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals to fill the vacancy left by Bill Lewis, who was appointed to the Alabama Supreme Court on Tuesday. Bowden, who has served as Circuit Judge in Covington County since 2016, said he is honored to serve and his appointment takes effect immediately.  1819 News
