CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mobile police responded to a shooting on Foreman Circle on May 15th at 8:32 p.m. and found that a man with non-life-threatening injuries was taken to a hospital by personal vehicle—no other injuries were reported. UTV 44
- ➤ FBI Mobile Acting Special Agent in Charge Tim O’Malley said that 502 undocumented migrants have been arrested in the Southern and Middle Districts since January 20 for violent crimes, with many having a criminal history (involving HSI, ATF, ERO, DEA, and CBP) (and local partners assisting). - ➤ On Friday, a team of seven federal agents from the FBI, Homeland Security, and U.S. Marshals held a press conference at Mobile’s FBI headquarters after three and a half months of immigration enforcement in the Southern District—502 arrests were made including 9 tied to a deadly Venezuelan gang, three minors were rescued, and one U.S. citizen was arrested for impeding the process across 13 counties. 1819 News

- ➤ Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan congratulated Bayside Academy senior Amelia Wells for being selected as one of 32 students statewide to receive the 2025 Energy Southeast Scholarship, a $2,500 award that will support her college education in Alabama. Energy Southeast is awarding a total of $80,000 in scholarships to eligible high school seniors served by Fairhope Public Utilities. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ Residents from the Mobile Bay area met Thursday night at St. Philip Neri Church in Belle Fountaine to oppose a plan to dump 90 million cubic yards of sediment into the bay as part of a ship channel project over the next 20 years. The group urged citizens to contact federal officials (Sen. Tommy Tuberville, Sen. Katie Britt, Rep. Barry Moore, and Rep. Shomari Figures) and said legal action may follow if lawmakers do not act by mid-June. 1819 News

- ➤ Jurée Hall has been appointed the new Director of the Mobile Public Library system by the Board of Trustees—she brings over 17 years of public service experience from roles including chief at Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library and will begin her duties on June 1. Her leadership is expected to enhance the library’s services for the community. NBC 15
- ➤ After nearly two years of planning, the Mobile City Council will consider awarding a $15.2 million contract on Tuesday to dredge Langan Lake at Municipal Park. The project led by Hughes Companies will remove at least 125,000 cubic yards of material, deepen the lake for canoes and kayaks—and bury invasive apple snails three feet deep. NBC 15
