CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mobile PD released its 2024 crime report on May 13th—showing that homicides increased by 12% and violent crime dropped by 11%. UTV 44
- ➤ Ralph Pollock (64-year-old) was arrested during a traffic stop in Key West on Sunday and is held in Monroe County Jail pending extradition to Mobile, where he faces charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the 2017 death of Joyce Bosarge in Theodore. - ➤ A 33-year-old Irvington man, Dustin Stokes, is accused of terrorizing his 76-year-old relative on Sunday night when she called 911 after he threatened to kill her; a judge ordered him to be on electronic monitoring with no contact as a 3-year-old was present, and he bonded out Tuesday—this marks his 11th booking on charges of elder abuse and domestic violence. - ➤ City officials in Gulf Shores said they are preparing for over 40,000 people as Morgan Wallen's Sand in My Boots festival will be held from May 16 to 18 and tickets sold out in 90 minutes. Ticket resale prices range from $400 for general admission to $5,625 for VIP (Ticketmaster listings show a range of $600 to over $4,000). 1819 News

- ➤ More than 140 contract workers were laid off at a Theodore chemical plant after Evonik ended its contract with Bilfinger Inc.—the layoffs began April 16 as a WARN notice on May 7 reported 143 affected workers. Evonik confirmed that over 700 employees remain unaffected while the plant expansion project to support its animal nutrition business continues. AL.com

- ➤ Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones announced his endorsement today for State Representative Barbara Drummond's campaign for mayor of Mobile; he credited her decades of service at city, county and state levels as proof of her commitment to the community (her extensive background is seen as a vital asset in uniting neighborhoods). - ➤ NOAA Fisheries announced that federally permitted for-hire vessels will have a 107-day red snapper season from 12:01 a.m. on June 1 to 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 16, giving charter operators 19 extra days to fish compared with last year—this season uses an overall quota of 7,991,900 pounds whole weight with 42.3% allocated to for-hire operations. - ➤ Fairhope city council declined to issue an immediate resolution to move books labeled sexually explicit & instead supported the library board’s ongoing review of about a dozen challenged titles while state funding remains paused.
