COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 400 runners and walkers took part in an 11-lap challenge race in downtown Daphne today—Belrose Avenue was closed off for the event—and raised over $200,000 to benefit the Baller Dream Foundation that supports children and young adults with cancer.  UTV 44

CULTURE NEWS

  • Battleship Memorial Park announced last week six young women chosen as the 2025-26 USS Alabama Crewmates to serve as park ambassadors and earn a $2,000 scholarship each—two will receive extra awards at the end of their term. The program started in 1967 to honor military service during public events.  Gulf Coast Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Baldwin County High School honored 34 seniors last week with Academic Banners for meeting strict achievement criteria such as an ACT score of 22 and other honors (including high GPA, National Honor Society membership, or extracurricular involvement). The seniors shared their college or career plans during the ceremony and the banners will be draped on their chairs on graduation night (a final tribute to their success).  Gulf Coast Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A storm early Saturday brought about 5 inches of rain in two hours and strong winds that knocked down trees and damaged a restaurant and boats at a Dauphin Island marina. Mayor Jeff Collier said cleanup will likely take about a week—no injuries were reported.  AL.com
