  • Baldwin Health and Columbia Southern University entered a strategic partnership during National Nurses Week to expand healthcare training for local professionals. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents of Baldwin and Mobile counties can volunteer to help protect Mobile Bay from coal ash pollution with the Coal Ash Action Group. RSVP is due May 18 for training on May 20 at the Daphne Public Library (2607 U.S. Hwy. 98) and a planning meeting on June 8.  Gulf Coast Media

  • Beth Holloway endorsed candidate Lloyd Peeples on Thursday for State House District 48, citing his proven record fighting for families. Peeples, a former senior trial counsel who prosecuted a high-profile case, will challenge incumbent Jim Carns.  1819 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thirty-one doctors, including Mobile-area physicians, are now certified to recommend medical cannabis to treat conditions like chronic pain and nausea. Patients will be able to get approved products when licensed dispensaries such as Callie’s Apothecary (mid-May) open.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Michael Catholic boys soccer team won its first Blue Map Trophy in Baldwin County by capturing the 5A state championship. Head coach Tito Rodriguez said standout plays by goalkeeper Zach Deroy (who saved three penalty kicks), Wells Sawyer, and MVP Jake Lazzari led a 19-8-4 season.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Mary G. Montgomery’s football team rallied to a 43-20 win against Ocean Springs in Semmes, overcoming a tough offseason marked by their coach’s administrative leave during an ongoing investigation.  The Call News
