  • On April 23, Goodwill Gulf Coast's Kaleidoscope program was honored as Community Partner of the Year by the University of South Alabama College of Education & Professional Studies at the Mitchell Center.   • A Hurricane Awareness Tour stopped at Brookley Field this week so residents learn how Hurricane Hunters fly into storms. A U.S. Air Force Reserve pilot demonstrated how dropsondes gather lifesaving storm data as officials urge the public to prepare before hurricane season begins on June 1.  NBC 15

  • Following customer complaints about missing headstones, Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley replaced its manager Tim Street — the funeral home is working to complete pending orders amid ongoing investigations as some families still face delays.  1819 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Alabama Extension (at Auburn University) reported that 100% of the state is in drought with 46% in extreme conditions, impacting pastures, catfish ponds, and row crop planting. Extension experts advised farmers to manage forages carefully as limited April rain means further rainfall is needed to boost soil moisture.  Gulf Coast Media

  • Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis presented a proclamation on Tuesday at the city council meeting to honor Armed Forces Day on May 16, and Vietnam veteran U.S. Army Col. Patrick H. Downing (Ret.) thanked the council for recognizing his service.  1819 News
  • Baldwin County Commission asked the Alabama attorney general for guidance on whether it can impose a temporary moratorium on large solar projects near Stockton + the inquiry follows community concerns over potential environmental impacts on flood-prone land along the Tensaw River.  UTV 44

HEALTH NEWS

  • Frozen pizzas sold at Walmart and Aldi have been recalled by the USDA due to a risk of salmonella. Consumers in Mobile are advised to dispose of or return the pizzas — including Great Value and Mama Cozzi’s brands — for a refund.  AL.com
  • Retired fire medic Onrie Brown is urging the Mobile VA Clinic to add a pharmacy, urgent care & a full hospital to serve local veterans who face long drives for essential treatment. He has sent his letter to federal and state leaders and plans to rally support for the expansion.  NBC 15
