  • This weekend, Baldwin County will host several events including Foley’s Welcome Back Monarch Day (9–10 a.m.), a genealogical session at the Foley Public Library, and the Fort Morgan Seafood Festival at the marina.   • Riviera Utilities will celebrate National Drinking Water Week at Foley Sports Complex on Thursday, May 7 from 5 to 7 p.m., offering a family-friendly event with hot dogs, chips and cookies and a hands-on touch-a-truck experience (for kids and families) that highlights the crews behind clean water.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Alabama firefighters praised Denis Leary for donating forced entry equipment through his foundation, which helps small departments with tight budgets.   • Allegiant announced (in a weekend release) a special offer for Spirit Airlines passengers affected by the carrier’s sudden shutdown. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Truth in Nature will launch a free outdoor mentorship program for middle and high school boys from fatherless or single-parent homes in Loxley starting June 2026. Families and mentors can apply by following the eligibility guidelines (free of charge) as the program expands to serve the local community.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Mary Montgomery coach Zach Golson was placed on administrative leave Monday by MCPSS following allegations that eighth graders at its freshman signing ceremony did not live in the proper zone — the Alabama High School Athletic Association is investigating as the Vikings’ spring game against Ocean Springs may be delayed.  The Call News
  • University of South Alabama will hold its spring/summer commencement on Friday, May 8 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Center, where 2,184 graduates—68 with a 4.0 GPA—will celebrate as President Jo Bonner delivers the keynote address.  NBC 15

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Foley City Council approved an access road at the 93-acre Andrew James Wetland Preserve, which will open to the public within the next year. The site, born from Hurricane Sally cleanup, offers improved water quality and wildlife habitat + a place for environmental education.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Work continues at the Andrew James Wetland Preserve in Foley where the city is building a road for a passive recreation area near the Bon Secour River headwaters; the reserve is scheduled for completion in the 2027 fiscal year and will improve water quality and support local wildlife.  NBC 15

  • A Baldwin County family got a second chance after a 74-year-old woman who went missing Saturday was found in distress following a search that included drones + K-9 teams; law enforcement urged families to consider Project Lifesaver tracking before an emergency occurs.  NBC 15

  • Two former Daphne High School football standouts signed undrafted free agent NFL contracts recently.
