- ➤ City inspectors returned to South Haven Apartments on Dauphin Island Parkway to review repairs after a month was given to fix issues like a bypassed thermostat plus loose doors and a rusty bathtub drain. Tenant Deborah Moore said she is leaving as repairs remain incomplete and similar problems continue for other residents while officials plan to release follow-up results soon. NBC 15

- ➤ The US Marshals have offered a $5,000 reward for tips on Gregory Vanness Jowers—6 feet 4 inches tall, 180 pounds and bald with brown eyes—wanted on charges including murder, first-degree robbery, domestic violence, assault and failure to appear after he was linked to John Fabian’s death on Christmas Day; officials say he may be aided by family and friends. - ➤ Michael Edward Terrell, 46, of Daphne pleaded guilty to attempted receipt of distribution of child pornography and received a 135-month prison sentence with 15 years of supervised release—he must register as a sex offender, have no contact with minors, and pay $30,500 in restitution plus $5,100 in special assessments. 1819 News
- ➤ A 54-year-old inmate who claimed high-ranking status in a white supremacist group was sentenced to five years in federal prison and ordered to pay $26,185.70 after mailing a threat letter to Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood that referenced Marco Perez’s conviction for killing Officer Sean Tuder—agents from the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office have enhanced security measures around the prosecutor. - ➤ A rape charge against former Mobile police officer Jonathan Tyler Leach was dropped when new evidence emerged after investigators spoke with the alleged victim—Leach, who was fired in June 2024 and arrested in September, will face no further charges. WKRG News 5

- ➤ A Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle laid a nest on Fort Morgan’s beach on April 30, marking the first nest in Alabama this season—nesting continues until October 31. The eggs will incubate for 50 to 55 days before the hatchlings move toward the ocean. AL.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Reps. Shomari C. Figures and Brian Jack introduced a bipartisan Rural Hospital Stabilization Act on Tuesday + the bill would provide up to $5 million in grants to rural hospitals facing closure. The act is meant to help pay for repairs, operations, or equipment upgrades and keep essential health services available in rural communities. Gulf Coast Media
- ➤ The House Judiciary Committee approved Sen. Clyde Chambliss’s SB324 bill to expand the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles from three to five members and to change how its chairman is chosen on Thursday by an 8 to 7 vote (the bill also requires Senate confirmation and realigns board terms with legislative sessions). The bill will go to the House for a vote as early as next Tuesday. AL.com
