CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mobile Police Department said a man was injured Tuesday near Moffett Road (close to I-65) when another man struck him with a tool after an argument; the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment (an investigation is ongoing). WKRG News 5
- ➤ Mobile police said that a man sustained a non-life-threatening knife wound early Tuesday when an unidentified suspect exited a vehicle on Dauphin Island Parkway—he stabbed him during the incident. Lagniappe Daily
- ➤ Mobile police arrested 41-year-old Darryl Wiley— a repeat offender— on Monday after he was released from a local hospital following his flight from officers on April 24 and charged him with felony attempting to elude and trafficking cocaine. UTV 44
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Historic Blakeley State Park will host two special events on May 9. In the afternoon guests will board one-hour cruises to the SS United States from the Mobile Convention Center dock with historian John Sledge as he explains the ship’s past and its future as a man-made reef off Florida coast, and later the park will offer a free live concert by local band High Cotton at 6:30 p.m.—guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Amtrak will launch Mardi Gras Service, a twice-daily train between Mobile and New Orleans that stops in Bay Saint Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula—this new service honors local Mardi Gras traditions while offering riders connections to longer Amtrak routes. Fares and schedules will be announced when service begins in a few weeks. Gulf Coast Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mobile city leaders are discussing spending $428,880 on repairs for the 21-year-old cruise terminal parking deck and considering a larger garage to let a second cruise ship dock. Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the current deck cannot have more levels and noted that taxpayers spend about $300,000 a year on maintenance. UTV 44
- ➤ Alabama lawmakers passed HB437 to create the state's first shark alert system that sends texts only after an unprovoked shark attack on Mobile and Baldwin county beaches — the bill now heads to the Senate with Gov. Ivey expected to sign it soon. Local agencies will use FEMA’s IPAWS tool to send alerts in a small area, and the measure was inspired by 15-year-old Lulu Gribbin, who survived a shark attack last year. AL.com
