  • The Mobile Chamber hosted its 39th Annual Military Appreciation Lunch last Thursday at USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park, where veterans, active‐duty service members and cadets were honored with speeches from local leaders including retired Lt. Gen. David S. Fadok.  NBC 15
  • Mobile residents are invited to join the National Day of Prayer event on Thursday, May 7 at Battleship Park from noon to 1:30 p.m., where local faith leaders and the mayor will lead prayers to mark the 75th Anniversary of the day and the 250th Anniversary of the nation's founding (free parking is available for those notifying the park attendant, though chairs are limited).  City of Mobile

  • Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii will open its second beach café in Gulf Shores at 520 West Beach Boulevard early June as part of a 10-unit deal that expands the chain's Gulf Coast presence.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • This spring, Alabama Extension specialists led by Eddie McGriff toured Bundaburg in Queensland to learn new farming techniques such as water storage, crop management, and precision farming, and they will share these ideas with local growers.  Gulf Coast Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kay Ivey has ordered all flags lowered to half-staff today in honor of Officer Dallas Hinton (25), who died on April 22 in a crash on U.S. 43 near Clarke County; a memorial service is set for 10 a.m. today at the Thomasville Civic Center.  AL.com
  • Candidate Hampton Harris condemned Representative Shomari Figures for accepting an SPLC Action Fund endorsement after the group faced federal indictments; he said voters will have a different choice this November in the district.  1819 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • A trademark filing from Sept. 19, 2025 suggests that Zawyer Sports plans to revive the Mysticks hockey team for the Southern Professional Hockey League. The team will play at Mobile Arena (currently half complete and set to open January 2027) with branding details to be revealed in June.  AL.com
  • Baldwin County track & field athletes delivered strong sectional performances over the weekend, with several champions and qualifiers earning tickets to the state meet at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex from April 30 to May 2.  Gulf Coast Media
