  • The City of Mobile’s Homeless Outreach Team and Ransom Solutions cleaned up a long-standing encampment near Moffett Road and I-65 last week, improving safety and sanitation while connecting individuals to essential services.  UTV 44
  • Melissa Boesel, a cherished yoga teacher and founder of Jensen's Heart of Gold, passed away on March 19 after her third fight with cancer.   • Based in Mobile, Austal USA is demonstrating its new Digital Secure Exchange for Additive (Digital SEA) platform at the Air Sea Space 2026 trade show in Maryland to speed up submarine module production.   • Orange Beach Middle and High School Theatre will stage Seussical Jr. at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center from April 30 through May 3, a musical for all ages featuring student performers.   • St. Michael Catholic HS reported that its two Region 1 winners in the Bryant-Jordan Program earned $6,000 & $5,500 in scholarship awards and will attend Auburn University this fall, marking the first wins in their categories in school history.  UTV 44

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Alabama's red snapper season will begin on May 22 for private & charter vessel anglers, with fishing available seven days a week until the season ends while federal for-hire permits open their season from June 1 to Oct. 26.  AL.com
  • The Alabama Wildlife Federation Delta + Bay Conservation Center opened Tuesday, April 21, in Spanish Fort, offering locals interactive exhibits, two miles of scenic trails, and kayaking access in a revitalized natural setting.   • Mobile Baykeeper paused its SWIM program today because of a funding gap at 20 water testing sites in Mobile and Baldwin counties. The group said it will focus on tracking pollution sources before exploring options to restart regular water quality testing.  UTV 44
  • State officials said the Alabama Forestry Commission kept the state under fire danger after 80 wildfires burned nearly 4,000 acres last week; the north is high risk and the south very high. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning (permits are needed for burns over .25 acre) amid extreme drought.  1819 News

  • Alabama secured a $12.2 million settlement with Roblox that funded school resource officers and mandated new child safety measures.
