- ➤ The EPA has proposed changes that could ease coal ash cleanup standards at Plant Barry near Mobile Bay, where millions of tons of ash remain in groundwater-contact ponds — state regulators extended the closure deadline to April 14, 2028, prompting local groups to warn of risks to waterways and public health.
