- ➤ Audrey Elaine Reed Ferguson, a 22-year-old mom, went missing on September 5th, 1978 when she visited a Prichard laundromat and her car was found with her clothes still in the dryer—weeks later her body was discovered near an illegal dump on Highway 158, leaving her family holding a vigil for answers while a local cold case advocate draws attention to another disappearance. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bellingrath Gardens in Theodore is preparing its first Chinese lantern festival featuring a 197-foot dragon and interactive displays like lanterns, pandas and zodiac animals built by Chinese employees since March 20. A one-night preview gala was held Saturday and the festival will open to the public from April 17 to June 15 to showcase Chinese culture on the Gulf Coast. WKRG News 5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thanks to a nearly $1 million donation from the SONIC Foundation from drink sales—400 teachers from 149 public school districts, including two from Baldwin County, traveled to Atlanta for the Ron Clark Academy Experience to learn new classroom techniques. Three hundred teachers trained on March 20-21 and 100 will train on April 24-25. Gulf Coast Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After weeks of negotiation and compromise, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 252 regulating pharmacy benefit managers by requiring them to pay community pharmacies at least the Medicaid reimbursement rate—carried by Sen. Billy Beasley and Rep. Phillip Rigsby—and has sent it to Gov. Kay Ivey for her signature. Supporters say the bill will help small pharmacies while opponents warn it may lead to higher costs for customers. 1819 News
- ➤ The Mobile Housing Authority is nearing completion of the sale of over 300 acres of land to the Mobile Airport Authority for a new downtown airport facility—this step follows a judge ruling against a legal challenge. Lagniappe Daily
