ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Mobile Police, Fire units, and ALEA began searching Dog River (April 10th just after 11 a.m.) after receiving reports of an overturned boat with debris and a possibly missing boater. UTV 44
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ FBI Mobile arrested six suspected members of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua—carrying out a joint operation with Mobile Police Department, Homeland Security, ATF and Border Patrol on Wednesday. 1819 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 5, Dauphin Island Sea Lab held its annual Discovery Day at the Alabama Aquarium and unveiled a new hands-on Discovery Lab that lets visitors act like marine scientists by identifying fish plus building a remote-operated vehicle. The lab, built in the former Little Billy Goat Hole and funded by GoMESA plus supported by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, helps kids and adults learn about our coastal waters. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said today that some officers in ALEA’s Marine Patrol division were harshly enforcing no-wake rules and harassing boaters — and he plans to air a television announcement with pamphlets to explain boater rights — as he defends constitutional freedoms. UTV 44
- ➤ The Mobile County Commission has partnered with Leisure Sports and Recreation Group to plan Jubilee Park, a 90-acre water park and recreation center next to the county’s new aquatic center and soccer complex on Halls Mill Road. LSAR will begin master planning next year while the park—expected to generate 300 construction jobs and attract up to 500,000 visitors annually—is set to open in spring, 2029. AL.com
- ➤ The Alabama Senate unanimously passed a bill on Wednesday banning cell phone use by public K-12 students during school hours; if signed into law, it will take effect for the 2025-2026 school year with exceptions (for students with an Individualized Education Program, Individualized Accommodation Plan, Section 504 plan, or Individualized Health Plan) and a proposed parent communication exception (which was tabled by voice vote). 1819 News
