- ➤ Legacy 166 + the Dora Franklin Finley African American Heritage Trail will host workshops on Africatown and Prichard history, resilience and climate. - ➤ At a March 31 meeting, a federal panel voted to exempt oil+gas operations in the Gulf from Endangered Species Act protections. The decision, noted by NOAA, may affect coastal wildlife and ecosystems along Alabama’s shoreline and lead to further legal reviews. Gulf Coast Media
- ➤ State regulators from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) are investigating complaints of a persistent burning odor at a site off Kooiman Road in Tillmans Corner. - ➤ A new National Weather Service report finds more than 60% of southwest Alabama is in severe to extreme drought, affecting Mobile and nearby counties. - ➤ The Senate passed a bill that gives workers up to $1,000 in overtime deductions & removes the 2% grocery tax from May 1 to June 30, with the measure expiring at the end of 2028. The House already approved it and the bill now heads to Gov. Kay Ivey for her decision. 1819 News
