CRIME NEWS

  • A Mobile pastor, Bradrick Vail, Sr., was sentenced Tuesday to two years in jail after he was found guilty of seven counts of sexual misconduct that involved abusing his role at Tree of Life Deliverance Ministry.  1819 News
  • Mobile PD is looking for Nathan Thomas (13) who went missing on April 3rd and was last seen leaving Hankins Middle School wearing a gray school shirt and brown khaki pants and reportedly has a medical condition; anyone with tips should contact the department.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seven candidates running for mayor have raised over $800,000 this year—more than 71% of which went to former District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis and County Commissioner Connie Hudson. Municipal elections will be held Aug. 26 as campaign filings show both candidates receiving most donations from individual donors while local PACs and groups also contributed.  AL.com
  • Gov. Kay Ivey supported House Bill 437 on Wednesday to set up a shark attack alert system in Alabama, a measure inspired by Mountain Brook teen Lulu Gribbin who survived a shark attack off Florida. The bill passed out of committee and will send alerts to cell phones and first responders—offering a new tool to help keep beachgoers safe.  1819 News
  • Alabama lawmakers approved new regulations that require pharmacy benefit managers to reimburse independent pharmacists at least the state Medicaid rate for prescription drugs—an effort aimed at preventing the closure of small pharmacies. The bill now goes to Governor Kay Ivey.  Alabama Public Radio
  • Mayor Sandy Stimpson said drainage improvements are under way after heavy rains delivered 6 to 10 inches from Sunday to Monday that required rescuing one driver by boat. The city is rebuilding underground systems as part of capital projects and will complete a map of its stormwater network in six months.  1819 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alabama legislators unanimously passed a bill on April 9 that will expedite Medicaid access for pregnant women— the legislation covers up to 60 days of outpatient care while their applications are processed and now goes to Governor Kay Ivey for her signature.  Alabama Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Senior Bowl announced today that Drew Fabianich is its new executive director and he will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. in the Oakleigh Garden Room at the Battle House Hotel to outline his plans for the game. Fabianich brings over 37 years of football experience—having worked with the Dallas Cowboys, Auburn University, and West Virginia University—to help grow the event in Mobile.  UTV 44
