- ➤ Mobile partners with Regions Bank for naming rights and banking services for its new Regions Arena, which will open in early 2027 with live events and a professional hockey team in the heart of the city — marking a shared vision for local growth. 1819 News
- ➤ City leaders in Prichard met on April 7 to review a proposed $93M data center project that could create about 20 jobs & boost local growth. Edged Energy explained the design would be quiet and use efficient cooling to address community concerns about noise and traffic. NBC 15
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alabama State Department of Education has named 16 finalists+selected from over 155 teachers statewide for the Teacher of the Year award, including a Mobile County finalist from Council Traditional School. One finalist will be crowned in May to serve as a full-time education ambassador. AL.com
- ➤ Mobile County high school students are debating global issues at Davidson High School’s annual DIMUN conference, where they represent various countries and propose solutions (from debt relief to conflict resolution). The event is taking place this spring. UTV 44
- ➤ High school students from across Mobile are taking part in the annual Model United Nations conference at Davidson High School, where they role-play as world leaders and debate global issues (from conflict to economic challenges). The event helps build empathy and leadership skills as participants research and propose resolutions. NBC 15

- ➤ Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department rededicated its state-of-the-art fire training facility (named in honor of Alfred “Skeeter” Nelson) with a ribbon cutting attended by his family and an open house scheduled on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 10 a.m. The three-story facility simulates varied rescue scenarios to boost firefighter safety. - ➤ Mobile PD announced the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at police headquarters on 2460 Government St to safely drop off unused or expired medications and prevent misuse. UTV 44

- ➤ Mobile's new Anchor Place, a three-story mixed-income development with 70 units at 2350 Demotropolis Road, received the area's first Workforce Housing Tax Credit to support affordable housing for local workers. - ➤ Former Crimson Tide greats Trent Richardson and Germie Bernard plan youth football camps for local players. Richardson's camp in Robertsdale at J.D.
