COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama will host Walk for Epilepsy on Saturday, May 2 at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m., and the event offers family activities and fundraising opportunities (free to attend) to support epilepsy programs.  UTV 44
  • Friends of the Spanish Fort Library will host a three-day spring book sale from April 14 to 16 at the Spanish Fort Public Library (7361 Spanish Fort Blvd), offering discounted books and media to support library programs.   • The Baldwin County Commission approved donating 4.5 acres of county property to Prodisee Pantry for a new food distribution facility in Stockton near Highway 225 and Lakeview Road — the site must be developed within three years with construction funded through donations and grants.  UTV 44

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Regions Bank has secured naming rights to a new $300 million arena in downtown Mobile under a 10-year agreement (financial terms undisclosed), announced at a ceremony on April 7. The arena is set to open in January and will host events including minor league hockey and Carnival season activities.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile’s Spring Fling Music Festival will take place this Saturday, April 11 at The Grounds off Cody Road. The event will feature 50 performers and thousands of fans for a celebration of southern soul and blues (inspired by Mel Showers, Jr.’s nod to his mother’s advice).  UTV 44
  • Tickets are on sale for Disney’s Frozen: The Broadway Musical, which will run from Apr. 29 to May 2 at Henry George Park on the Bluff — where local students, teens and adults will perform hit songs — with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. daily.  Gulf Coast Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, MCPSS held its first-ever JROTC Signing Day honoring high school seniors choosing military service, with 37 students recognized out of more than 4,000 cadets. District leaders say the event highlights students' informed choices for life after high school.  NBC 15
  • Sixteen outstanding educators (selected from 155 submissions) were named as finalists for the 2026-2027 Alabama Teacher of the Year in the Sweet 16 announcement on Tuesday. The final four will be chosen before state officials announce the winner in May.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Senate passed a one-year moratorium limiting new industrial-scale solar facilities to Mobile and Baldwin counties, but Senate rules delay sending the bill to the House. A town hall in Bay Minette will discuss the Stockton solar project planned for future development (which ties into local energy needs).  AL.com
  • The City of Spanish Fort passed a resolution naming its section of State Route 225 American Patriots Way—honoring local patriots—while Baldwin County Commission approved designating remaining segments along US 31 to I-65 to mark the upcoming 250th Independence anniversary; county officials will coordinate installation of new signage near historic landmarks.  NBC 15

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Anchor Place is a new 70-unit mixed-income housing project at 2350 Demotropolis Road that received Mobile’s first Workforce Housing Tax Credit from the state and is supported by the city & private partners; construction will begin in early 2027 with leasing planned for summer 2028.  NBC 15
