  • Fairhope officials dedicated an upgraded waterfront project at the Rose Garden today after nearly two years of improvements, including a renovated pier, fountain, sidewalks, and ADA features. The $11,015,065 upgrade was mainly funded through RESTORE funds + local contributions to enhance coastal access and resilience.  Gulf Coast Media
  • The Eastern Shore Young Professionals will host their annual Cornhole Tournament on Thursday, Apr. 16 at JBT Power on U.S. Highway 98 starting at 5:30 p.m. to benefit the Eastern Shore Chamber Foundation’s Youth Leadership and Student Training programs with a $20 donation that includes food and drink perks.  Gulf Coast Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile is set to host the 2026 Gulf Coast Challenge from Oct. 1 to Oct. 3 with a football match between Jackson State and Alabama A&M at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Oct. 3 at 4:00 p.m. The event will also include college and career fairs, luncheons, and nightly concerts + more.  UTV 44
  • Mobile's Spring Fling Music Festival will be held Saturday, Apr. 11 (The Grounds off Cody Road). It will feature 50 performers and nearly 20,000 fans coming together to enjoy southern soul and blues like a big family reunion.  NBC 15
  • Serda's After Dark transforms the backroom at Serda's Coffee Company into an all-ages venue for local and touring bands. A local band showcase was held on Saturday, March 28 and organizers plan more DIY music shows soon.  Gulf Coast Media

  • The South Alabama Land Trust secured 52 acre parcel in Silverhill to protect native forests and wetlands along Perone Branch — a tributary of Fish River. The move protects water quality amid local development pressures while honoring the property's heritage with ties to a longtime local family.  Gulf Coast Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers will vote today on a bill by State Sen. Shay Shelnutt and State Rep. Susan Dubose that would limit sex ed in K-12 schools to an abstinence-only curriculum and ban contraceptive demonstrations for young students. The proposal also requires parental notification with an opt-out option and will spark debate.  1819 News
  • Mobile Fire-Rescue Department released its 2025 annual report on Monday, March 30 which detailed a 1% drop in calls while emergency medical and fire incidents remained steady and confirmed its ISO 1 rating and accredited status. HEALTH NEWS

  • Most rural hospitals in Alabama are losing money as rising costs outpace payments, with 84% operating in the red. Some have cut services or closed while officials say low reimbursement rates and high uninsured numbers strain resources (hindering care) even though no closures are expected soon.  UTV 44
