CRIME NEWS

  • Three Mobile defendants—John Fitzgerald McCarroll Jr., 31; Darrius Dwayne Rowser, 21; and Lyteria Isheeia Hollis, 31—were sentenced to life in prison after their October conviction in a murder-for-hire conspiracy that resulted in four shootings, five arrests and one intended victim.  WKRG News 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thomas Savell, a senior at Saraland High School, received over $3 million in scholarship offers and plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham after graduation — he hopes the total will continue to increase.  UTV 44

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' WFF Division has added seven Motus Wildlife Tracking System stations in the northeast and on the Gulf Coast, including Weeks Bay—Dauphin Island and several state parks. The program uses tiny radio tags to track birds and insects—helping researchers study migration routes and plan conservation efforts.  Gulf Coast Media
  • South Alabama Land Trust will host the 15th Annual Bald Eagle Bash on April 26 from 4–7 p.m. at the Weeksmeire Weeks Bay Resource Center to raise funds for coastal restoration and wildlife protection—local restaurants and over 80 businesses will support the event with seafood dishes, live music and a silent auction.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Mobile is evaluating purchasing the old Trinity Broadcast Television station property near West I-65 as an alternative site for its new animal shelter after rising construction costs affected plans at the Montlimar Drive location—officials say the potential site could offer a more cost-effective option if renovated. The Mobile City Council is set to vote on the purchase at its next meeting.  WKRG News 5
  • Officials said that Mobile motorists will see McGregor Avenue reopen by the end of 2025—along with the groundbreaking for a new Interstate 10 bridge and Bayway project—and expect future improvements in travel flow.  Lagniappe Daily
  • After more than a decade of failed voter-approved takeovers and mismanagement that included disputed contracts and expensive spending, a court-appointed receiver said Tuesday that only a MAWSS takeover will rebuild and operate Prichard’s water system—restoring stability after years of political entanglement and law enforcement raids.  UTV 44
  • Alabama lawmakers approved a bill that allows people to voluntarily store their weapons with licensed gun dealers to help prevent suicide— the measure grants lawsuit immunity to dealers and now awaits Gov. Kay Ivey’s signature.  Alabama Public Radio
