- ➤ Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood announced this morning that Kenneth Colburn pleaded guilty to the intentional murder of Tammy Wedgeworth when she gave him a ride on January 1st — he shot her multiple times during a robbery attempt and left her in a ditch on Eliza Jordan Road. - ➤ Mobile Police chased a car missing a tire from Shelton Beach Road and Moffett Road until it hit spike strips near the I-65/I-10 interchange—resulting in an arrest and causing a patrol vehicle to receive flat tires while no injuries or property damage were reported. NBC 15
- ➤ A woman who had been charged with intentional murder had her charge upgraded to capital murder after she was arrested on Aug 23rd, 2024 for stabbing her boyfriend Taylor Rawlins at Charleston Apartment Homes—911 calls recorded conflicting accounts while his children were present. WKRG News 5
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Amtrak will begin passenger rail service between New Orleans and Mobile in summer 2025, running two daily roundtrips that stop in Bay Saint Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula. The confirmed service ends years of delays after Hurricane Katrina ended the previous route and gives local travelers a stress-free alternative + a new way to explore the Gulf Coast. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey has urged Alabama parents to apply online for the CHOOSE Act Education Savings Account for the upcoming school year before the April 7 deadline so they may benefit from a refundable income tax credit of $7,000 for eligible students or lower amounts for others. Award notifications will be sent in May (priority is given to students with special needs and dependents of active-duty service members). 1819 News

- ➤ A public hearing on HB473 to reopen Big Creek Lake will be held on April 2 at 10:30 a.m. in room 123 at the State House—no vote will occur until a later meeting as lawmakers decide on stopping water systems from banning fishing, boating and other recreation on public lakes. Citizens can sign up to speak during the hearing if they want to share their views. 1819 News
- ➤ The City of Mobile is now accepting applications for summer internships under its Y.E.S. program (Youth Empowered for Success) for teens and college students (ages 16 to 24), which will offer up to 160 hours of paid experience with local employers during June and July, with applications open until April 4. - ➤ Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a law this month that makes it a felony to have parts that turn pistols into machine guns, punishable by up to 10 years in prison + officials said the move followed a fatal shooting near a Birmingham lounge. Alabama Public Radio
