CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A press box burned down and another sustained damage overnight at the Theodore Athletic Association ballpark after an arsonist set them on fire around 1 a.m.—the park lost power and Theodore-Dawes Fire Rescue took about 45 minutes to control the blaze ahead of today's season opener fundraiser. 1819 News
- ➤ Mobile Police Department officers arrested 18 people on drug and gun charges during Operation Azalea Trail on March 27 along Azalea Road, seizing 1,750 grams of marijuana, over 10 grams of cocaine, 370 grams of synthetic marijuana, 17 grams of psilocybin, $6,673, and 10 guns — police are still searching for additional suspects. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Conservation ruled that Big Creek Lake is public water for fishing and boating, but the legal view does not force MAWSS to reopen the lake. Citizens will hold a public meeting Sunday (March 30 at 3 p.m. at Hill Spring Baptist Church in West Mobile) and plan to support Rep. Stringer’s HB473 at an April 2 hearing. 1819 News
- ➤ ALDOT ended its negotiations with the Mobile Bay Constructors team for the Bayway portion of the Mobile River Bridge project— the project remains on track as design work transfers to ALDOT and a new team will be chosen in the coming weeks. Gulf Coast Media
- ➤ USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park is accepting applications for its 2025-2026 Crewmate Program for young women aged 19–20 who live in Mobile or Baldwin County; applications are available online and at the park’s gift shop from Monday, March 31 with a deadline on Friday, April 18 at 4 p.m. Selected participants will serve as ambassadors at state events and receive scholarships, free uniforms, travel support + chaperoned appearances.
