COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boat Show on the Bay will return to the USS Alabama Battleship in Mobile on April 4-6 as Yamaha hosts a family-friendly event offering over 100 vendors, live music and special activities—events like a Goula Cornhole Tournament, foam party, dog costume contest and kids’ appearances on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. also add to the experience with special pricing for military and first responders on Friday.  Gulf Coast Media

CRIME NEWS

  • The family of special needs 21-year-old Alexis accused Arabella Health and Wellness in Grand Bay of covering up sexual abuse after staff allowed a male resident to expose himself to her during a December visit and again on January 13, and they filed a lawsuit while planning to move her to a new facility.  UTV 44
  • Arabella Health and Wellness Center in Grand Bay is facing a lawsuit after a male resident allegedly sexually assaulted a nonverbal patient (with Phelan McDermid Syndrome) in January, and the suit asserts that staff did not properly report the incident and tried to cover it up.  WKRG News 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall warned citizens on Tuesday about a rise in phone scams that try to steal money and personal information. He detailed scam tactics and urged residents to hang up—if uncertain and avoid giving out sensitive details.  1819 News
  • Mobile Baykeeper and We Matter Community Association will host a town hall at Sure World Outreach Ministries on April 3 at 6 p.m. to update residents on outdated water and sewer systems that have led many to buy store water — attendees will have the chance to ask questions and hear from the utility receiver.  1819 News
  • Former pastor Michael Woodard filed campaign finance paperwork to run for Mobile mayor on February 18—he served in the Army Reserves and now works in IT operations at SP+.  UTV 44
  • Alabama became the 25th state to ban conversion devices like Glock switches—tools that turn semi-automatic firearms into machine guns—after Gov. Kay Ivey signed SB 116 into law, making possession of these devices a Class C felony. Local law enforcement and elected leaders backed the move as recoveries of these devices surged following mass shootings in the state.  Gulf Coast Media
