- ➤ Yesterday (Tuesday), more than 600 people attended Mobile's third annual Spray Drone End User Conference where farmers and drone developers showcased the latest farm-drone technology. The event showed how drones can target specific crop areas to reduce pesticide use and save money and time (industry leaders compared their accuracy to that of a surgeon's scalpel). WKRG News 5

- ➤ On Tuesday, a Pensacola man received a 12.5-year sentence for kidnapping a Mobile zTrip taxi driver at gunpoint in December 2019 — he forced her to drive him into Georgia where she escaped. NBC 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Knox Ross said that Amtrak may begin selling its first ticket in April for a new service between Mobile and New Orleans while trains are set to start running late June. Local officials and tourism groups are meeting regularly to finalize fares and complete track installations — pending a final agreement with Louisiana. NBC 15
- ➤ On April 2 at 10:30 a.m., a public hearing will be held in room 123 at the State House in Montgomery to discuss HB473—a bill that would stop water systems from banning fishing and boating on public lakes after MAWSS closed Big Creek Lake on February 4. A Mobile-based group called Take Back Big Creek Lake from MAWSS has urged citizens to sign up to speak at the hearing. 1819 News
- ➤ At Monday’s meeting, Fairhope City Council and over 130 community members backed the public library after state funding was paused due to noncompliance with new guidelines—city officials stressed that local funds will continue and that APLS will restore state support once the library meets the policies. Council members also noted steps have been taken to address concerns about book placements while local groups raised funds to help maintain operations. 1819 News
- ➤ The Alabama Public Library Services board paused $42,000 in funding for Fairhope Public Library after Moms for Liberty complained about inappropriate book placements in children’s sections. Local council members and library supporters criticized the decision & began a grassroots fundraiser that has raised over $36,000 as officials await further clarification on the state guidelines. - ➤ Mobile public bus service ran Tuesday despite delays earlier this month when nearly 36 drivers called in sick as part of a labor dispute, and transit union president Antonie Mabien warned that a final contract offer this week may force a strike if no better terms are reached. City Mayor Sandy Stimpson said current transit spending is unsustainable with the Transdev contract ending in June — the city is discussing a low-cost rideshare program to help riders get to essential appointments if a strike occurs.
