  • Alabama Extension is starting the 250 Pound Challenge from Memorial Day, May 25 to Labor Day, Sept. 7 to have gardeners donate extra fruits and vegetables to local food banks and community kitchens (county teams can boost donations).  Gulf Coast Media
  • Mobile launched a new website and brand for Azalea City Golf Course today, featuring a refreshed logo and easier tee time booking. The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department is also working on on-site upgrades such as clearing wooded areas to improve course playability.  UTV 44

  • At 6 a.m. Friday, March 28, Fairhope’s Chick-fil-A opens with a Moove-In Party where guests wearing cow-themed attire receive a free entrée while the restaurant will create 100 jobs & donate $25,000 to Feeding the Gulf Coast.  AL.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews have been working for over two hours today to contain a brush fire at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores; authorities have closed East Fort Morgan Rd at Highway 59 + East 2nd Street south from 15th Ave and State Highway 135 for safety.  AL.com
  • Yesterday, a brush fire at Gulf State Park led to closures at Fort Morgan East near Walmart and the city advised residents to avoid nearby roads (with intermittent traffic lights). The park remains closed as emergency crews manage the situation.  NBC 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Saraland celebrated the opening of its new event center on March 19 by cutting the ribbon at a facility adjacent to the completed municipal complex along Highway 43 plus offering flexible 25,000 sqft for conferences, weddings, and community events available for public rentals.  NBC 15
  • State lawmakers will decide on the fate of four bills aimed at slowing a controversial solar farm development (in Baldwin County) over the next few days; the proposals remain uncertain.  Lagniappe Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sunday morning, firefighters responding to a fire on Plover Street quickly assisted when a man rushed in with a newborn after his niece gave birth (in a parking lot); separate ambulances took the mother and baby to a nearby hospital where they were reported doing fine.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 48th annual Azalea Trail Run will take place Saturday at Mardi Gras Park with runners competing in 10k, 5k, or 2k races + winners receive $1000 for their chosen charity. Spectators are welcome to cheer on participants along routes in Downtown and Midtown Mobile.  NBC 15
  • On Tuesday, Auburn beat South Alabama 10 to 0 at DABOS Stadium as pitcher Andreas Alvarez posted seven scoreless innings and Chris Rembert hit a solo homer to enforce the mercy rule. Auburn will face Alabama in a series starting Friday at 6:00 p.m. on SECN+.  1819 News
