ECONOMY NEWS

  • Foley city officials announced on March 19 they received a $3.33 million SEEDS grant to purchase a 121-acre parcel near the Foley Beach Express for a new industrial park, a project by local and state partners that aims to create jobs and boost economic opportunity in the area.  Gulf Coast Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Daphne High School will present 'Mamma Mia!' with opening night on March 26 and additional night and matinee shows through March 29 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. The production features a mainly senior cast that will celebrate their final performances & deliver a musical with ABBA hits.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Jacksonville State University will host a week-long Summer Civics Seminar for K-5 teachers across Alabama from June 14-19, funded by a $2.6M grant covering travel, lodging, meals, and 50+ hours of professional learning.   • Residents in rural Baldwin County worry about more solar projects as a 4,500-acre site near Stockton sparks pushback and two additional grid connection requests appear from developers in Tensaw & east of Bay Minette, while local groups filed 1,000 signatures to bring zoning oversight to unzoned areas.  NBC 15

  • Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate said rising gas and oil prices are driving up fertilizer and farm equipment costs during his interview on FM Talk 106.5. He warned that local farmers will face higher input expenses as they prepare for the upcoming planting season.  1819 News
