- ➤ A lawsuit filed by the grandmother of a non-verbal resident accuses a Mobile County nursing home of covering up alleged sexual abuse when a male resident entered her room on December 10—an incident that repeated on January 13—and staff delayed medical tests and failed to alert law enforcement. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At the first Alabama Conservation Advisory Board meeting of 2025 last weekend in Montgomery, members reviewed a report by Conservation Commissioner Chris Blankenship that proposed extending the red snapper season during peak summer and adjusting the deer bag limit, and they approved the recommendation. The meeting also covered major State Parks projects and improvements to boating access and online reservations—efforts aimed at boosting outdoor activities. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ The Alabama House approved a bill that will require probate judges to check votes after countywide or statewide races. House Bill 30 lets each county's canvassing board pick one precinct and one race at random for an audit—judges compare at least 30 ballots by hand with machine counts and then post the results on the Secretary of State website. - ➤ On Wednesday, a litter crew cleaned trash along the 1-65 service roads, picking up plastic bags, bottles and dumped items — including shopping carts — as conditions worsened, James Gordon of the Alabama Department of Transportation said. Last year, the state spent 9.4 million dollars on cleanup — with Mobile and Baldwin counties spending 800,000 — and ALDOT urged drivers to secure their trash and join volunteer efforts. UTV 44
- ➤ Governor Ivey signed Senate Bill 67 on Tuesday, March 18 to boost veteran services by reforming ADVA’s structure—she also named Brigadier General Jeffrey Newton as the new ADVA commissioner, effective Wednesday, March 19. NBC 15
- ➤ Alabama lawmakers approved a ban on Glock switches and other devices that convert semi-automatic weapons into machine guns after several mass shootings last year— the bill now goes to Gov. Kay Ivey and will take effect immediately if signed. Alabama Public Radio
- ➤ Orange Beach approved a project to build a new outdoor memorial honoring veterans and first responders on March 11 and awarded the bid to Badger Building Inc. with a budget up to $561,685. Construction will begin in the next 2 or 3 weeks and is expected to finish by late fall. Gulf Coast Media
