EDUCATION NEWS

  • Baldwin Preparatory Academy in Loxley (a model for career tech schools) is launching innovative programs that offer dual enrollment with Coastal Alabama Community College and hands-on training in fields like welding and healthcare; the school will help fill local job openings fueled by record economic growth.  Alabama Public Radio
  • St. Michael Catholic announced that Grace Austin, currently finishing her exercise science degree at Austin Peay State University, will join the Cardinals this fall as a health & PE teacher and varsity volleyball coach, bringing five years of coaching experience.  Gulf Coast Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A bill passed by the Legislature created the Alabama Seagrass Restoration Task Force to study and restore coastal seagrass, which supports marine life. The task force will hold its first meeting Jan. 1, 2027, pending Gov. Kay Ivey's signature.  Gulf Coast Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill to pause large-scale solar farm projects for one year passed committee review and will receive a full Senate vote to study environmental impacts amid community concerns about a proposed project in Stockton, with lawmakers excluding the TVA region to protect operations near Redstone Arsenal.  AL.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City officials and RAM Hotels broke ground in Spanish Fort on two new hotels (TownePlace Suites by Marriott and Tru by Hilton) in the eastern corridor on Wednesday. Construction is underway and the Tru is set to open in October.  NBC 15
