  • Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Training Division and City of Mobile Animal Services partnered for Community Day on March 10, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. at the City of Mobile Animal Shelter (855 Owens Street), where 100 dogs and 50 puppies will be walked by 27 firefighter recruits along Owens and Virginia Streets.  UTV 44

  • Gulf Coast native Jonathan Young, who calls himself Jonathan 2.0, impressed his Kalo tribe on Survivor this week by using his water skills and helping teammate Benjamin Coach when he got a leg cramp, which led the tribe to secure immunity.  Gulf Coast Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mobile Co. EMA is alerting residents and motorists about a planned training event today from 8 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. at 7350 Zeigler Blvd + nearby locations to help first responders practice unified operations.  NBC 15
  • At a Bayou La Batre shipyard, Birdon and the Coast Guard held a triple keel ceremony for the first three Waterway Commerce Cutters designed to maintain inland navigation aids. Officials said the new class is expected to enter service in 2027 or 2028 — a milestone for local shipbuilding.  AL.com
  • Saraland residents have dealt with heavy equipment and barricades on Bernard Street — a dead end leading to busy Celeste Highway — due to a stalled water board project after the contractor withdrew. Water board engineers said crews are expected to return Monday pending ongoing legal discussions.  UTV 44
  • The Southern Rail Commission is considering installing bollards at train crossings to improve safety for trains and cars in the area. The measure follows recent fatalities and a video showing 13 drivers bypassing crossing arms—and may support safety as Amtrak expands its Mardi Gras line.  UTV 44

  • Local chef Lines+Angles has shared a hearty Irish Stew with Lamb and Potatoes recipe for St. Patrick's Day celebrations. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Monday, March 9, City of Mobile officials & partners will celebrate the opening of Live Oak Trace in West Mobile, a new $19.8 million affordable housing community for seniors with 56 two-bedroom, two-bath apartments featuring amenities and rental assistance for qualifying residents. The development is located at the corner of Overlook and Middle Ring roads.  NBC 15
  • The Budget Inn Motel at 555 Government St. in downtown Mobile received approval to renovate its historic motor lodge into a boutique hotel with galleries and balconies for Mardi Gras views. The family owner will start development when final drawings are complete (expected in three months) and grant applications succeed.  AL.com

  • Coach DeBoer said Alabama football now features a standard quarterback battle between Austin Mack and Keelon Russell and fresh defensive additions via transfers and returning starters as the team prepares for spring practice starting Sunday - a move that could shape the upcoming season.  1819 News
