  • Dressed in bright scarlet, the Magnolia Breeze Youth Ensemble opened its 13th season of marching with booming drums on Saturday afternoon as part of Mobile Mardi Gras celebrations. The youth band showcased its vibrant spirit for local festivities.  Lagniappe Daily
  • The Barn at Hope Farm in Fairhope is hosting a limited-time Italian dinner experience, offering freshly made pasta and other classic dishes from scratch by Chef Orlando Amaro and his staff from today through Sunday as a preview for an upcoming Italian market and restaurant concept.  Gulf Coast Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon and former Auburn University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bruce Pear will visit a Mobile school tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. as part of the History Rocks! tour (a national event celebrating the nation’s Semiquincentennial) that highlights innovative ways for schools to teach history.  NBC 15

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bobwhite quail in Alabama remain stable in quality habitats amid an 80% decline since the 1960s. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources works with federal partners at wildlife areas in Covington and Cleburne counties (Boggy Hollow and Choccolocco) to promote effective habitat management.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Meta plans to build a 4500 acre solar farm in Stockton, Baldwin County to supply power for a new data center while local residents raise concerns about impacts on wetlands and wildlife. Silicon Ranch will begin construction by the end of this year and develop the project in two phases.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Rep. Jerry Carl leads the CD-1 GOP primary with 43% support in a poll from Jan 31-Feb 2, while nearly half of voters remain undecided. The primary is 100 days away & the field includes several other candidates.  1819 News
  • City code enforcement declared the vacant 470 Dauphin Street building unsafe and ordered it secured in the next few days to protect residents and visitors. Walker Brothers Investments also owns nearby properties that are unsecured plus raise safety concerns downtown.  NBC 15
  • State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) is recovering well after a Tuesday hospitalization for appendicitis, his wife said Wednesday; doctors report he will soon be as good as new.  1819 News
