  • Students from the University of South Alabama College of Nursing and College of Allied Health Professions will host Project Homeless Connect at The Grounds on Friday, Jan. 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. More than 300 local homeless will receive free healthcare, legal, housing and employment assistance + other essential services.  NBC 15

  • Hummingbird Way’s head chef at a Mobile oyster bar in Oakleigh was named a semifinalist in the James Beard Awards & his nomination spotlights local culinary talent. He now joins a select group of chefs recognized for their unique contributions to the food scene.  Lagniappe Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An underutilized stretch of the Causeway between Felix’s Fish Camp and USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park will become Valor Park starting the first week of February (Spanish Fort Mayor Brad Bass said the $3.2 million project will include a pavilion and natural living seashore for secure waterfront fun).  NBC 15
  • The Alabama Public Television Commission (APT) voted to extend its PBS contract through June, ensuring statewide programming remains available. Commissioners will meet in April to decide on the network's future.  NBC 15
  • Brig. Gen. Miller of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shared an open letter on Tuesday addressing public claims and legislative questions about dredging and environmental protections in Mobile Bay.   • Sen. Tuberville announced on Wednesday that 47 Alabama students were nominated for U.S. service academies for the Class of 2030. The nominees include those selected for the Air Force, Military, Naval and Merchant Marine Academies from communities across the state, including Mobile.  UTV 44

  • AltaPointe Health will host its first weekly online veteran support group meeting starting Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Zoom. Veterans may join as they choose (anonymous participation is allowed).  UTV 44
