- ➤ Husband-wife duo Emily and Walker are reopening their dirty soda shop near Gulf Shores Family Pharmacy on Feb. 1 with a season of creative drinks. The shop will open 3 to 6 p.m. on opening day and operate Thursday through Saturday and Sundays — with a new monthly themed menu. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ The 66th Annual Dogwood Trail Pageant and Scholarship Program is set for Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Fairhope Civic Center where 43 contestants vie for eight court seats; each winner earns a $1,500 scholarship and becomes a Goodwill Ambassador with community service hours, with a live stream on social media. - ➤ Goodwill Gulf Coast and the South Alabama Homebuilding Academy launched a tuition-free eight-week construction boot camp Jan. 8 at Goodwill’s McMaken Building, offering training and job placement assistance for roofing, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or HVAC careers. Gulf Coast Media
- ➤ Governor Ivey announced Tuesday that funding for the CHOOSE Act education savings program will soon increase to $250 million to meet growing demand. - ➤ State lawmakers announced legislation on Monday, Jan. 12 at the Fairhope Municipal Pier to ban mud dumping into Mobile Bay by redefining dredged material’s beneficial use — the two-page bill excludes open-water disposal and spares federally funded ship channel dredging to protect the bay’s environment and economy.
