Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) criticized the CHOOSE Act on Alabama Public Television this week, saying taxpayer money should not fund private schools without state accountability. - ➤ Ocearch tracking data showed a 1,000-pound great white shark named Ernst was pinged near Dauphin Island on Jan. 11. The shark, first tagged in Oct. 2025 in Mahone Bay, has moved unusually close to shore — prompting experts to study its coastal behavior. AL.com

- ➤ State lawmakers, including Senator Chris Elliott and Representative Rhett Marques, vow to end the practice of placing dredged sediment in thin layers in Mobile Bay because oyster farmers report harmful mud buildup on their cages.
