  • Two local Mediacom employees earned top service awards for 2025 at a company ceremony in Loxley, with veteran worker Charles McAdams named Area Operations Employee of the Year and Casey Nunn honored as People’s Choice among 200 awardees nationwide.  Gulf Coast Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Heritage Park in Foley will host the Gumbo & Alabama Slammer Festival on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 with gumbo from local chefs, live music by Private Eyes and Krash Party, a petting zoo, and contests awarding $50 prizes.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Buddhist monks and their rescue dog visited Alabama during their peace walk across the South, drawing nearly 1,000 people at a church in Opelika and 200 at a farm in Cusseta (part of a journey that began in Texas and will continue to Washington, D.C.).  Alabama Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent 2025 report shows that Baldwin County roads are among the nation’s best (rising from 88% to 92% acceptable from 2020 to 2023). Local engineers say strategic partnerships and planned projects, including a near complete bridge opening this summer, will ease traffic and improve safety.  Gulf Coast Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) will announce its reclassification on Jan. 23 and many coaches worry that splitting public and private schools may harm athletic competition. Coaches from Mobile and beyond urge a compromise to prevent a divide in high school sports.  The Call News
