- ➤ Residents in Africatown opposed plans for a concrete plant intended to mix concrete for the $3.5 billion Mobile River Bridge project because its location 700 feet from Lewis Landing & a planned park honoring survivors of the slave ship Clotilda threatens community revival. - ➤ Winn-Dixie announced it will close eight Alabama stores in the next three months as it refocuses on Florida and Georgia. Two locations in Mobile—4724 Mobile Hwy and 740 N. Schillinger Road—are set to close in late January, with additional closures planned in Fairhope, Millbrook, Opelika, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. AL.com

- ➤ Federal funding for water improvements has been reduced in several Alabama communities, impacting upgrades to aging wastewater systems and potentially worsening health risks in underserved areas (including majority-Black counties). Alabama Public Radio
