  • North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and Alabama Career Center System are hosting the Veterans Job Expo on Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the John F. Rhodes Civic Center in Bay Minette.   • Trey King (founder of Fairhope Salt Company) collects Gulf water early at The Hangout to hand-harvest high-quality salt using his traditional filtering method. His careful process takes two to three weeks, and he is working to fulfill a backlog of about 250 pending orders.  Gulf Coast Media

  • The Mobile Museum of Art unveiled its full rebrand Tuesday morning and announced an exhibit featuring works by five iconic street artists from the 1980s to the present at its location.  Lagniappe Daily
  • Alabama State Parks and Auburn University are presenting a traveling exhibit on explorer William Bartram at 12 parks, including a show at Meaher State Park (Mar. 3 to 30) featuring guided hikes and interactive programs that let visitors explore our natural heritage.  Gulf Coast Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Alabama’s Department of Workforce Secretary Greg Reed announced that November’s preliminary, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 2.7% from 3.3% last year. Record employment levels were reached with 2,312,892 employed (65,078 unemployed) and a total labor force of 2,377,970.  UTV 44

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service updated its forecast for Friday as a cold front will trigger strong winds, heavy rain, and possibly a tornado, with Mobile in a Level 1 risk area for isolated severe storms — residents across Alabama should be prepared — as rain alerts extend into Saturday.  AL.com

  • Foley High School named former Opelika coach Bryan Moore (105-28 record) as its new leader after a multi-state search recommended him by Principal Jessica Webb; the Baldwin County Board of Education approved his hire on Jan. 7.   • Former Foley High School star Perry Thompson committed to Minnesota after two seasons at Auburn, choosing the Gophers over Oregon State amid transfer portal speculations; he retains two years of eligibility.  Gulf Coast Media
